DAY 3: 31 Day Aspiring Polyglot Challenge – Learning Persian (Fārsī)
“Love will find its way through all languages on its own.”

Introducing Yourself
I wasn’t expecting this to be easy, since it is called a challenge. Introducing yourself can be daunting, especially in a new language. In Persian (Fārsī), it felt like it was more difficult to get the words and sentences out on paper. I struggled badly. I ended up going to sleep, getting ready for the road trip back home, and trying again once I was back home.
I wanted to get more down on paper and try not to use the romanization or transliteration version, but I need to learn Persian (Fārsī) phonetically first before I can move on to the script, which, by the way, is another beast in itself.
The first sentence is the informal introduction. I tend to stick with formal just in case.
Sālam, man Elizabeth hastam. Az didan-e shomā khoshbakhtam.
Hello, my name is Elizabeth. Nice to meet you.
Man amrikayi hastam.
I am American.
Man yek sag daaram.
I have a dog.
Man too California zendegi mikonam. Havā garm nist.
I live in California. The weather is not hot.
Man mohandesam.
I am an engineer.
I know it sounds like caveman talk, but that’s where I’m at with Persian (Fārsī). I could give up and cry, but I’m interested in learning the language. I’ve purchased five books (three e-books, an audiobook, and a workbook) and added them to my reading list. I wasn’t expecting to purchase materials for this challenge; however, language learning resources, specifically audio translations, are hard to come by for Persian (Fārsī).
Sometimes you have to break a few eggs to make an omelet.
