ALLEZ ELIZABETH - A DAY IN MY LIFE

A Day In My Life

Every habit is made of three parts… a cue, a routine and a habit. Most people focus on the routine and behavior, but these cues and rewards are really the way you make something into a habit.

Charles Duhigg

I'm a creature of routine, but I still need flexibility. I adjust as I go and go with the flow. It's the only way to live I think. If you're looking for a perfect routine, you won't find one here. You'll just find what works for me. If you can take anything from it to use it for yourself, feel free to do so. If not that's okay. Again, this is my routine. 🙂

Wake Up

The dogter is usually the first one to wake me up. I have set few alarms, which to be honest are mostly ignored. Teaching your body to wake up naturally is the best way to go. Getting enough sleep so you don't have to pop up like pop tart and rush to get ready sets you up for the rest of the day. I don't believe that you need to wake up super early to get anything done. Don't let my calendar fool you, this is what my perfect calendar looks like. Some days I miss the mark completely and I'm okay with that.

ALLEZ ELIZABETH - This is what my calendars look like overall. I get deeper in ClickUp.

Once I get up, I stretch and meditate. I then hit the shower. Not much different than what you do probably. I take my retainers out, brush my teeth and then get to skincare.

Morning Skincare Routine

Skincare was taught to me at a young age by my Mom. She would often come home from her second shift as a nurse assistant dead tired, but never skipped her skincare routines. I've used drugstore brands mainly and before the Rona, I'd go to Trader Joe's to get their skincare products. I highly recommend them. If you're not ready to go into TJs to track down skincare products, I have a shortlist of my favorites.

Eat A Healthy Breakfast

Leftovers first. I only cook a few times a week. When I do cook, I cook enough for at least two meals for breakfast and dinner. However, most mornings it's some oatmeal with an assortment of seeds, nuts, berries, and bee pollen, two soft-boiled eggs, and an iced doppio espresso unsweetened almond milk latte with cinnamon and nutmeg. Once a week, I need a smoothie bowl with all the fixings. It's part of my self-care Saturday. Lately, with this heat, it's also like having ice cream for breakfast.

Don't get me wrong, I love waffles with bacon and all the carby fatty goodness, but that's usually a once-a-month thing. When I'm traveling, it's a toss-up.

Check Email + Start The Workday

I start my workday by checking email and end it by checking email. The in-between time, my mail app is completely turned off. My phone sits away from my desk face down. I do not have the vibrate option on. Otherwise, I would probably get distracted by that. Unless I talk to someone and I am expecting an email, I will not check it.

Work is typically from 9 am – 6 pm. I take a break for lunch, and small breaks throughout the day to stretch, meditate, walk around, and grab snacks and water. Depending on the day's theme, I will work on sales, marketing, design, writing, admin stuff, and tech. Context switching kills productivity and there's no such thing as multitasking.

ClickUp holds all of my tasks and I'm pretty lost without it. I open that right after I close my email app. I look at what needs to get done for the day and I get to it.

Throughout the day my Amazon Echo Dot will go off. I have set routines that vary somewhat from day-to-day. Alexa will remind me to get up and stretch. She'll motivate me to keep going and Mon-Thu at noon, she reminds me get up and dance.
A glimpse of my Alexa routines.

Eat Lunch + Maybe Have A Dance Party

It's simple. I grab what I can throw in a bowl or blender and keep it moving. Salads, protein bowls, and protein shakes. Usually, I cut ingredients up on Sunday when I get my Instacart order delivered. I don't like to call it meal prep because I'm not making full meals. It's easier to grab and go during the week.

End of Day Routine

At 4 pm, Alexa will remind me to start winding down. That's the cue to look if I have any important emails I need to write or phone calls I need to make. Alexa will remind me to prioritize any tasks I have left.

At 5 pm, she'll tell me I only have an hour left. This is usually when I break away for 15 minutes to go start dinner. As I said before, most of the prep work is already done on Sunday. It's usually throwing a piece of fish or a whole chicken into the oven, setting a timer, and steaming some veggies.

At 6 pm, it's “Great Job! See you tomorrow, boss lady!” At the end of my workday and the beginning of my evening at home, Alexa also asks me what's for dinner and plays music in the living room Echo Dot. In case you're wondering, yes the pad is riddled with smart plugs and smart assistants. I love tech.

I eat dinner and then take my ass upstairs to take a shower.

Easing into the Night

When I come back downstairs, I wash the dishes and wipe the rest of the kitchen down for the night. This way everyone knows that the kitchen is officially closed! Then I pick up a book to read or watch some TV. It's usually something sitting on my DVR. I burn white sage or palo santo, light some candles, and then take a few drops of CBD oil. I'm officially in chill mode.

In the chilly months, this is hot chocolate/drinking chocolate or tea time.

Lights Out

Time for bed. I take the dog out one last time. Drink a glass of water and make my way upstairs. CeCe goes to her bed and I go to mine.

See you in the morning!
