You’ve probably heard of the many ways you could learn a language. You can try learning through another language. For example, French through Italian, or Dutch through German. By watching all of your favorite movies, TV shows, or YouTube channels. But have you ever tried learning a language while learning a new skill? I love to stack tasks (try saying that three times fast). Sometimes I’ll put on a podcast while washing dishes, or listening to an audiobook as a bubbly mask does it magic on my face as I soak my feet. By the way, try some lavender and tea tree essential oils in your next foot bath. Whatever I have to do to maximize my time, I am all for it!
Here are three ways I’m combining language learning with learning other skills.
Practice your Castilian or Mexican Spanish and Portuguese while learning Graphic Design, Business, and Marketing

I was minding my own business one day when an ad popped up in my feed. *shakes fist* They totally got me. I was in the market for an Illustrator course to level up my skills and bam there it was. I almost didn’t click on the link because, at the time, I had a monthly subscription. I’m glad I stuck with it, though. Domestika is a gold mine! All of the classes are taught in Castilian and Mexican Spanish. Before you ask, yes, there is a difference. Anyway, it’s similar to Udemy, but with Domestika, you can practice your Spanish or Portuguese via subtitles. You also have the option of English and Spanish subtitles.

Learn how to use your GoPro and practice American Sign Language

I love this channel so much! I had just gotten a GoPro and had no idea which accessories were worth buying. It took me a minute to realize that he was also signing, and I then started to sign right along. I’ve learned so much about how to use my GoPro camera and how to communicate using ASL because of Mitch. All of it fun for me, and it feels effortless. Make Delicious Meals and Learn French!

What better way to spruce up your French than through the art of cooking! I’m a sucker for cooking shows and videos. Seriously, I could watch a raclette melt all day! So, this was a no-brainer for me. I wanted to learn classic French dishes like coq au vin, soupe à l’oignon, and salad Niçoise. I get to learn the metric system and practice my French reading comprehension by reading the comments along the way. They have a great collection of recipes, not just French cuisine either.
I hope you found this useful. I encourage you to find ways you could combine your hobbies and learning habits with your language learning journey. It will help you keep things fresh. You will learn grammar and vocabulary quickly, too.
